Ryan R. Corkery

Overview

Ryan Corkery leverages nearly two decades of national litigation and trial experience with a Fortune 50 client background to achieve results for large corporate clients and select individuals.  Mr. Corkery holds an AV Preeminent rating, the highest honor from Martindale-Hubbell. He has been recognized for nine years as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers, an honor received by only 2.5 percent of Pennsylvania lawyers annually.  Mr. Corkery has lectured at numerous symposiums on topics such as trucking law, indemnity issues, insurance coverage issues, and punitive damages theories.  Mr. Corkery is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Pennsylvania office.

Mr. Corkery has represented clients in 28 states.  His experience includes serving as national counsel for a Fortune 50 transportation company, national counsel for a Fortune 500 restaurant company, regional counsel for the country’s second largest propane retailer, Pennsylvania counsel for a national casualty and property damage insurer, and outside General Counsel for clients. Before joining the firm, he spent years as a litigator for DLA Piper US LLP, one of the world’s largest law firms.  

Mr. Corkery has a passion for trial work and fighting for the success of corporate clients and select individual plaintiffs referred to him by lawyers who know his capability.  He and his team help select victims of truck accidents, nursing home abuse and neglect, defective products, negligent security, construction accidents, exposure to toxic chemicals, and sexual harassment.  As lead counsel, Mr. Corkery recently achieved a settlement of $13,250,000 in a product liability case involving chemical burns and sensory loss, achieved a $1,750,000 settlement in a Title VII employment case which involved allegations of hostile work environment, sexual harassment, and retaliation by a female former employee against a municipality in the Lehigh Valley, and achieved a settlement of $575,000 in a case against a continuing care facility.

Mr. Corkery’s skill and experience in large truck accident cases was so important to his clients that they flew him around the country for nearly 15 years to investigate and defend them in the highest exposure matters.

Work Highlights

• Tried a case to a defense verdict for a Fortune 100 client in Houston, Texas.

• Tried a personal injury claim to a defense verdict in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for a large, international manufacturing conglomerate in a toxic tort exposure case.

• Obtained dismissal at the pleadings phase for a Fortune 100 client as lead trial counsel in a tort action in state court in South Carolina on the basis of federal preemption under the Federal Aviation Administration Authorization Act (“FAAAA”), then argued as lead appellate counsel on appeal, and won.

• Argued an appeal as lead appellate counsel before the Pennsylvania Superior Court for an international transportation company regarding a double wrongful death case.

• Obtained summary judgment in a declaratory judgment action for a leading, international business insurer regarding an insurance coverage and bad faith claim in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

• Obtained summary judgment for an international elevator and escalator manufacturer and servicer in a high exposure tort action in New Jersey.

• Successfully defended a Fortune 100 client by achieving insurance coverage and full indemnity for same in a breach of contract matter in state court in Virginia.

• Successfully defended a leading insurance company in a class action matter in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania concerning payments made pursuant to a Pennsylvania statute relating to services and goods provided in workers compensation cases.

• Successfully defended a manufacturer of products for the home improvement and new home construction markets in a large subrogation matter sounding in construction defect in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
